  • A Plan to Get Out of the Heat

We are still working out the details, but the plan is to take a cruise around Iceland. Hopefully, we can also spend a few extra days in Rotterdam, where I’d love to do a beer tour. I will provide an update once I find out what’s available.

Here are a couple pictures of the itinerary:

More to come as we get this one figured out. Stay tuned…

  • Last Day of the Cruise (Updated)

Well we ended up walking into town. It was a couple of miles each way (got my 10000 steps in). In any event it was a pleasant walk the weather cooperated. Came back and was able to spend time talking to folks I had met over the course of the cruise. Tomorrow it will be time to get on a plane and head home.

Here are some pictures from our evening walk

  • Last Day of the Cruise

We will be stopping in Victoria BC this evening. Not sure we will go as its such a short time period there and not really that exciting. Will update this if we go into town. Tomorrow Seattle

  • Ketchikan, Our Last Day in Alaska

our stay in Ketchikan was short and we really didn’t have anything planned. We did get out and took a walk around the city , had a cup of coffee and visited a local museum. A pleasant day. The weather was perfect. We are underway again to our last stop Victoria BC tomorrow evening

  • A Cold Day in Sitka AK.

In Sitka we went to see the Raptor Center and also took a couple mile hike in the local rain forest. The Raptor Center rehabilitates birds that are injured and when possible releases them back into the wild. The bird pictures I will be posting are of birds they are unable to release due to the nature of their injuries.

The rest of my pictures are from our walk in the nearby Rain Forest.

  • Cruising the Icy Straight

Most of today we were cruising through Icy Straight. Didn’t spend to much time outside as it was quite cold and windy. It looked really good seeing it through a window with a hot cup of coffee in my hands.

In the evening we docked for a few hours and went to a seafood dinner and watched some native dancing. Even had a smore by a campfire. It was quite good but most of it was outside and I was glad to get back to the ship. Tomorrow Sitka.

  • Our Day in Juneau Alaska

Our first stop in Alaska was primarily a trip to the Mendenhall Glacier area. It was quite cold and there was snow on the trail that allowed us to get a closer view of the Glacier as well as a really cool waterfall. I have been to this location a decade ago. It is quite amazing how much the glacier has receded. Yes global warming is real my friends.

  • A Day at Sea

Windy and lots of swells. We were not allowed to go outside on deck 3. Probably a good thing. A few minutes in the casino but the were so tight had to walk away. will try again later. Went to brunch which was quite good. Time for a bit of down time before our next food call. Tonight will be Italian at the Cantaleto. Was disappointed with it on the Noordam. Hoping it will be better here. Was good when I was on this boat a year ago.

Here’s a short video from our rooms porthole.

  • In the Cheap Seats

Well the room is ok but from previous cruises my expectations have been raised a bit. It has been an ok experience but the lack of veranda affected me more than I expected. I will spend the money to do it in the future. I was offered an upgrade months back but figured I didn’t care that much. Well I was wrong on that.

We did manage to go to my favorite restaurant the Tamarid. Also managed a reservation at the steak house as well for later in the week. Plenty of food options on this boat. Hopefully we will be able to experience most of them.

In any case here is a picture from our port hole. Life at the water line.

  • Alaskan Cruise May 2026

Getting on another boat next week. Hopefully the weather will continue to be as good as it was last week in Canada. Its going to be a bit colder than previous Alaskan Cruises I have been on in the past. We usually don’t go this early in the season.

It should be a good time. Stay tunned…
